F T Last Award

During his professional career, Professor F.T. Last developed a particular interest in the practical effects of climate change on the growth and development of garden plants - the science of 'Phenology'. As a Director and respected researcher he also sought ways of encouraging others to investigate the world of plants.

The Directors of Gardening Scotland have established The Professional F.T. Last Award in tribute to their founding Chairman and in recognition of his lifelong and continuing contribution to Horticulture and the wider understanding of plants.

The Award - To provide financial assistance to professional and/or student gardeners to enable them to broaden their knowledge, skills and experience as part of their training.

Applications are considered annually by the Directors of Gardening Scotland. Application forms are now available and can be obtained by writing to The Secretary, Gardening Scotland, 9 Ravelrig Park, Balerno, EH14 7DL.

Successful applicants for the Professor F.T. Last Award will be expected to give a presentation or a written account at the conclusion of their projects.
