Scotland's top gardening show brings style to summer (14 January 2009)
GARDENING Scotland, the national gardening and outdoor living show, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and over the course of a decade it has earned a reputation for providing inspiration to visitors on how to make the most of their outdoor space.
This year is no exception, with more Show Gardens set to be created than ever before.
From cutting-edge contemporary designs to reworking of classical themes, all the gardens will bring a fresh approach to natural style.
Amongst the designers will be Primo Pots from Edinburgh who will be bringing a touch of Tuscany to their garden, with giant terracotta urns and olive trees imported from Italy.
Gardening Scotland is also the place to find unusual garden furniture and accessories and many exhibitors will be offering special deals for visitors on all different kinds of gardening products.
Fancy a hammock or a hot tub? Then this is where you will find them along with some of the most beautiful and unusual plants anywhere in the UK.
Top growers from all over the UK attend the Show, many of them Chelsea gold medallists, and this year there will be many new nurseries who have never attended Gardening Scotland before.
Central to the Show is The Dobbies Floral Hall, which will be filled with thousands of beautiful blooms and many stunning exhibits including an urban New Zealand villa with verandah and cottage garden which will be created by Binny Plants of Ecclesmachan.
Alongside the flowers there will also be a full programme of workshops throughout the three days of the Show, where gardeners of all abilities can learn top tips from the experts.
Other features will include a Plant Heritage Village, a Food Fayre filled with delicious produce and a huge Craft Fair filled with original art works and home accessories.
Back for 2009 will be The Big Back Garden, an area dedicated to family fun including sizzling BBQ demonstrations.
There will also be around 100 Pallet Gardens, miniature plots no more than 3ft sq, created by schools and gardening groups.
For the first time this year, visitors on the first day of Gardening Scotland will be able to vote for the People’s Choice Award, naming their top garden or exhibit at the Show.
