The best, simple and organic way would be to fill a sprayer with water and washing up liquid and spray on to your lupins or any other infected plants. This is very simple but extremely effective!!Happy spraying!! www.egrow.co.uk

In reply to your question re. the sowing of sweet peas under glass, I must establish whether they are to be grown under glass or simply to be raised in a greenhouse. If the plants are eventually to be grown in the garden, then there are some advantages of sowing now or in early spring, in order to establish strong-growing plants for a lengthy flowering season. If I were sowing now, I would first of all soak the seed in a jar of clean water overnight. If you are to grow named varieties, then you should be careful to mark each jar or container with the individual name. If you are raising just a few plants, I would recommend sowing the seed individually in cellular pots, this will avoid root disturbance at planting. Should you be growing alot of plants, then I would purchase special deep paper pots for sweet peas and sow 2 seeds per pot. I would choose a John Innes Seed compost or a peat-free alternative if you prefer. Do not compact the compost too severely at sowing and cover with a few mm of compost.
Water the cellular pots or paper pots from below after sowing and ensure that they do not dry out therafter. Place them in a tray on a bench in the greenhouse and cover with newspaper until the seed germinates and watch out for mouse damage!! The resulting seedlings should be grown on in full light to avoid drawn-up seedlings prior to planting, which should only take place after the fear of frosts have passed.

I think that's it. Best of luck. Jim.

For years I’ve travelled the road between Glasgow and Largs and passed the sign for the Finlaystone Estate, but I’d never visited it until last week. I was so impressed by this hidden gem that I’ve been telling everyone about it. There are acres of woodland which I’m told in spring are covered in a carpet of snowdrops, a lovely walled garden and rolling lawns with fantastic views over the River Clyde towards Dumbarton, but it was the bog garden which impressed me the most. This was full of lush plants that love getting their roots down into dry soil and I’m sure that early in the year, when the candelabra primulas are in flower, it must be a sight to behold. I’ll be back

Has anyone got any tips they can give me on making compost? I’ve tried several times now but each time the heap has either turned to slime or failed to decompose. Where am I going wrong?

was @ opening of show tonight , rbge{royal botanical gardens edinburgh} looked brilliant, good job done by team, this should be kept going, if only , as a ,team building excercise. which i think is the main poimt of the excorcise(?) once team got going it was apparent that workmanship /teambuilding , worked very well from top to base, and base to top, which, is ,a bit of a rareity , esspecially in this 21st century.(only just begun ).
